P-1A VISA

Green Card for Professional Athletes

What is the P1A Visa?

The P-1A visa is intended for individual athletes and members of internationally recognized sports teams.

To qualify for the P-1A visa, the applicant must demonstrate that they are an exceptionally talented athlete with a high level of achievement and recognition in their sport.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE P-1A VISA:

The application for a P-1A visa must be supported by a petition from a US employer. The employer acts as the petitioner and must demonstrate that the athlete or group is eligible for the visa.

The validity of the P-1A visa can vary, but is generally granted for up to 5 years with the possibility of extensions.

Family members, such as spouses and children under the age of 21, may accompany the P-1A visa holder to the United States on a P-4 visa. However, they are not permitted to work in the US.

P-1A visa applicants must provide documented evidence of their achievements and recognition in their field. This may include employment contracts, awards, reviews, recognition in international media and other relevant documents.

It is important to remember that the P-1A visa is intended for temporary activities in the USA. If an athlete wishes to remain in the United States long-term, they may need to explore immigration options such as the EB-1A visa (SEE MORE) for persons with extraordinary abilities or other immigrant visa categories. Additionally, it is advisable to consult an immigration office for specific, up-to-date guidance, as requirements and the process may change over time.
